Tim Knettler provides Strategic Planning, Global Strategies, Transition (Interim) Management, Membership/Revenue growth, Public Policy/Advocacy and other Leadership expertise and services to Associations and other Non-Profit and Government organizations. His leadership and accomplishments in both the for-profit and not-for-profit arenas resulted in record revenue, people and organizational growth that provide his clients with a distinct advantage. He is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and received his MBA from SMU.

He is former CEO of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the largest Advance Practice Registered Nurse organization in the world. Mr. Knettler was instrumental in providing leadership, developing systems and processes that produced record growth in total revenue, membership, conference attendance, continuing education credits offered and taken, associated certification and foundation revenues. With his medical licensure and regulation background, he established continuing dialogue and cooperation with the leaders of major national medical, advanced practice and nursing associations. He also created and implemented new state and federal legislative/policy processes with record results in government recognition and passed legislation.
Previously, he was Senior Vice President of Finance and Operations for the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB). During his eight year tenure, revenue more than tripled. Mr. Knettler’s executive leadership responsibilities included the International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA), the Federation Physician Data Center, Federation Credentials Verification Service (FCVS), Finance and Membership Support Services. Some of his leadership activities with demonstrated results included: National Workgroup on the evaluation of international medical schools that became national FSMB policy, Professionalism Workgroup researching information and methods to evaluate, teach and promote professionalism, Workgroup of State Medical Boards that developed an award winning online universal license application that has been implemented in numerous states, and additional license portability efforts with state, federal and international agencies. His collaboration with leaders of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) and the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) resulted in agreements that greatly improved services to all respective constituencies along with accreditation standards for international medical schools. Prior to FSMB, he was the Unit President/Regional Director for Omnicare, the world’s largest pharmacy service provider and the EVP/COO of the Thompson Group/Dedicated Care.
He is also co-author of leading edge research that was published in The New England Journal of Medicine, “Disciplinary Actions by Medical Boards and Prior Behavior in Medical Schools” and a frequent speaker at national and international conferences.
He currently serves on the Key Professional Association Committee (KPAC) – made up of CEO’s of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and is an active member of the Health information Management Systems Society. Tim Knettler received his BA in Psychology from Oral Roberts University, his MBA (Marketing Emphasis) from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University (SMU), consistently ranked in the top 20 Business Schools in the US.
